- June 11 – Halifax Airport to Truro overnight.
– 67 km @45 min- Rental was Toyota Corolla Hybrid – not a plugin - June – 12, 13 Baddeck overnight: Ceilidh Country Lodge with breakfast
– Stopped at Starbucks for Coffee before we set off for our first day in Nova Scotia!
June 12
– Stopped for Breakfast in Antigonish.
– Drove by Marble Mountain, (we did no rockhounding – the ‘hill’ was kinda rugged and steep, too early for a broken leg) and along side Bras d’Or Lake on our way to Baddeck.
– Checked in at Ceilidh Country Lodge.
– Went to the Pier and had Clam Chowder – late lunch and View of Kidston Island
with Kidston Lighthouse across from pier and Kidston Island West End Lighthouse at the other end.
– Picked up some salad and Chicken for supper before going back to the hotel.
June 13
– 45 min drive — Lockman’s Beach near Sydney Mines – Fossils, Sea glass and coal seam into the ocean.
– Chapel Point Battery Site is a World WarII era fortification Site above the cliffs at Lockman’s Beach. It includes an observation post and gun batteries and several below ground fortifications. It was built to defend Sydney Harbour during WWII. It was built in 1939 and decommissioned in 1956. The fence is in place because of dangerous cliff erosion. The museum in the observation building was closed when we were there in June.
– Stopped at Uisge Ban Falls hike on way back to Beddeck (hike 2.6 km)
– Had and early supper of Fish and Chips for me and Fish Tacos for Karen at a restaurant by the pier.
– Another stop at the Co-op to pick up a snack for later!
